The Hand of Götz von Berlichingen
A medieval Frankish knight, von Berlichingen lost his hand to a stray field artillery round sometime between 1505 and 1510 BCE. The blacksmith of the town where he lay on a sickbed forged him a magnificent replacement. Rather than the simple hook typical of the time, he crafted a flexible, fine fingered hand controlled by a button in the man's other hand. No longer a shamed cripple, Götz once again became a respected warrior capable of wielding the sword with an iron fist.
